How To Train Your Dog

When you start to perceive animals the way I do, it becomes very clear how to train your non-human family members. Animals are people. They’ are not humans, they are people. They have the same intellectual skills, the same communication skills, the same emotions, and the same basic brain chemistry as humans. They are people who just look different than us. Afterall, don’t all humans look different from one another? To see animals any different than as people is to misunderstand them.

How do you train humans? You don’t train humans, you motivate them.

And how do you motivate humans? It is very simple.

You spend time building a relationship. You spend time understanding their needs, their wants as well as how to communicate with them.

It takes a lot of time to understand them. Just like it takes a lot of time to understand another human being. Building a relationship is not easy or quick.

Every person’s needs, wants, and communication style are different. It is all about learning how to communicate properly. Once you understand the way a person thinks, you can understand how to motivate them. It takes time and positive reinforcement.

In a job what motivates you to work harder? You respect your boss, you want to follow what they want you to do, and they treat you the right way that encourages you to do that behavior. That is how you train your dog.

You understand how they think, you spend time building trust, you spend time building relationships, and you find out what motivates them best. You learn how to communicate appropriately what you want them to do so that they fully understand it.

There are many techniques that are helpful. But the basic understanding of what you’re doing and the why is important to understand; because if you do not understand your pet and you do not spend the time building that trust, you will not be motivated in the correct way.

That is how you motivate your dog to shift behaviors. It is very individualized for every nonhuman person you just need to find the right way to communicate your needs so that they understand it and motivate them in a way that works best for them.

Also keep in mind It’s hard to be motivated when you’re stressed. Ensuring that your dog lives in a stressed free environment is as important. This once again goes back to understanding your dog and understanding its individualized specific needs. Is it in the right environment for your dog to be truly happy.

Think of yourself in a job. Some jobs are better than others providing the optimal level of happiness for you. What about those jobs that make them better than others in providing happiness and joy for you?

Is it the environment? Is it what you get to do? These are important things to think about as stress will affect your dog’s ability to be properly motivated. Which means it’ll be much harder to train your dog.
